Comic Book Interview with Andy in Articles

WW Chicago: Talking with Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley
by Caleb Goellner

In an era when comic book conventions have broadened into something more akin to “entertainment” conventions, stocked with reality television personalities and retired Playmates, it can be easy to overlook the reason so many people take the time and spend the money to attend: the love of comics. As such, when an entertainment personality attends a convention just as a fan, their motivations are suspect.

Many older fans might think of Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley as something of a teen idol, playing drums on the songs their teenage daughters won’t stop singing. However, despite intimidating album sales, the 28-year-old former anthropology and history student demonstrates a genuine love for the comic medium.

CBR News caught up with Hurley during his visit to WizardWorld Chicago last weekend for a one-on-one interview about his reading material of choice and how MTV mainstays can still get star-struck meeting their favorite comics creators.

This Man Is Charming in Articles

“Pete Wentz would rather kill himself than live in the closet or keep his mouth shut. Instead, the Fall Out Boy front man is looking to his hero Andy Warhol for lessons on making a lightning rod of ambiguity.”

Peter was featured in an article on out.com. Head over and read it.

Fuck City in Articles
A new entourage called Fuck City has been birthed and Rock Sound recently caught up with members of the five man group (who also spend time playing in Fall Out Boy and Misery Signals amongst other things) to find out more about their new endeavour…

’’Andy Hurley has found huge success in what he worked so hard at for the last seven years and beyond that with smaller projects leading up to Fall Out Boy,’’ admits Mis Sigs guitarist Kyle Johnson. ’’There was something we always said which I will never forget, if there ever come a day that one of us was to become a successful musician (from a financial standpoint at least) then we would find a way to bring ourselves back together and live under the same roof.’’

With Hurley’s success as drummer of Fall Out Boy came the fulfilment of that promise. A house in Milwaukee was purchased and the five moved in together. ’’We used to live in a small three bedroom flat,’’ admits Johnson. ’’We felt we were meant to do this. Fuck City is about friendship in the end and I personally will always encourage people to follow in our footsteps and keep your friends close and live your lives as you feel comfortable doing so. Were not going to live forever so why waste the little time we have being anything but happy and satisfied in what we are doing?’’

The gents named their new palace Fuck City. It is a house, a merchandise line but firstly, and most importantly, it is a group of friends. ’’Fuck City is an ideal that is built on good times,’’ continues Misery Signals guitarist Stu Ross. ’’It is a collective of friends who have one mission; to take every chance available to have the best times of our lives. Fuck City is five people with roots in hardcore and punk ideals, we live our lives with these ideals in mind, taking everyday for what its worth, concentrating on happiness more then success.’’

For Fuck City it all begins with a merchandise line, rumours are it may eventually lead to a reality TV show. For more info and a some nice threads head to www.fuckcity.com

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz Says New Album May Sound Like AC/DC And White Stripes — Or Not in Articles
‘It’s early, but the ideas we’ve got right now, they’re really guitar-riff-heavy,’ bassist says.

Hey, bloggers! Pay attention, because Pete Wentz is about to make things very easy for you.

Here’s what he has to say about Fall Out Boy’s new album — you know, the one that may or may not have an Iggy Pop & the Stooges-meet-the Smiths feel to it? The same one they’re currently working on with producer Neal Avron? Anyway, yeah, here’s how Wentz describes it. And again, we urge you to have your OMGs and WTFs at the ready.

“It’s early, but the ideas we’ve got right now, they’re really guitar-riff-heavy. A lot of other bands, like AC/DC or the White Stripes, you know their songs by the opening guitar riff,” Wentz told MTV News. “So basically, I want our record to be like an AC/DC album or a White Stripes album. I want to make sure the bloggers say that. Actually, I’m just kidding about that. Well, I was kidding about the White Stripes part. Not AC/DC.”
